RE: New and Old Skins
I typically get ~40k miles on my tires, but my current set of Nitto Ridge Grappler tires LT285/65R20 have 36k miles and look like they could make it to ~50k miles.

The Ram 2500 I picked up recently has 9,800 miles with Firestone Transforce AT tires and they look like they may make it to ~20k miles.
I REALLY like my NITTO RidgeGrapplers on my 01 Sport. My mileage is similar to yours.

RE: Fifth Wheel Tag Renewal
Wow. I guess we have it pretty good in AB Canada. I think I paid something like 80 to register our 5ver and it is a lifetime fee. Our trucks and cars are about the same price but have to be renewed annually.
That is good but let's not get started on basic taxes. They all get ya somehow!!!

RE: Fifth Wheel Tag Renewal
Nobody uses "Trip Permits" in these high fee States???In WA anyone can go to DOT and purchase a 3 day trip permit. It used to be $15, not sure what it costs now. Totally legal to NOT license your RV and buy trip permits. Used to do so when WA had insane tab fees. The OP is not in WA, he’s in CA (what WA does doesn’t necessarily apply anywhere else in the world).
UH, no kidding!!! It was a suggestion to check it out as it can save big $$$.

Here in AZ, you're limited on the # of times you can buy them, just to keep people from doing exactly this.

RE: Tow Vehicle w/ Best Back Seat for Passengers - Ram Mega Cab?
Aside from losing bed space you also lose payload. Consider that.
Please explain.
Heavier cab reduces the payload.
Payload Mine 5,680 Mega 5,480 loss of only 200#
Not enough to make any difference IMHO.
Anyway it's nice to have options!!!

RE: Tow Vehicle w/ Best Back Seat for Passengers - Ram Mega Cab?
Thank you for the insights above. Do any of the crew cab models have rear seats that recline? Transporting someone with back issues and the recline relieves things.
Put the back issue person in the front.

I just looked up my 15 Crew 3500 4x4 4wd Aisin 4.10 truck and compared it to the same Mega. SAE J2807 ratings.
Payload Mine 5,680 Mega 5,480 loss of only 200#
Front axle Mine 6k Mega 6k Same
Rear axle Mine 9,750 Mega 9,750 Same
GVWR Mine 14k Mega 14k Same

RE: Tow Vehicle w/ Best Back Seat for Passengers - Ram Mega Cab?
I think it was back in around 2015 or 2016 that all manufacturers increased the rear passenger room. I think you can't go wrong with any of them in the years you are looking. As for bed length, the only thing wrong with my truck is the 6 1/2' bed. We have been looking at new trucks and finding a "long" bed is incredibly hard. Good thing I'm not in a hurry. What happened to trucks being used as trucks. The 6 1/2 foot bed is small regardless of what you are putting in there, unless you don't plan to use it as a truck. We haul hay, wood, trash, etc. And for towing, the longer wheelbase increases stability.
Simply order the truck exactly how you want. Had one "COMPROMISE" bed truck and hated it, great truck besides that.

RE: Tow Vehicle w/ Best Back Seat for Passengers - Ram Mega Cab?
Comfort is a relative term. The Mega Cab will have the most overall room (knee/leg room as well as room behind the seat, but that does not necessarily make the ride the most comfortable. Most any crew cab truck is going to have sufficient room, it is up to you to decide which truck has be best overall seat and overall riding experience. I would suggest riding in all of them and then make your decision. I had an older Mega Cab. Loved the truck and the room, but the rear seat was not that comfortable, especially on long trips.
Longbed Crew like mine will have a better ride over the similar 3500 Mega.

RE: Tow Vehicle w/ Best Back Seat for Passengers - Ram Mega Cab?
My 15 RAM Crew DRW has PLENTY of room in the back seat and I have some tall friends. I am tall and never have to move my seat forward. Never have understood the MegaCab thing as it causes you to loose so much bed space.
Well said... If I were a betting man, I would bet Ram will no longer make a MegaCab on their next gen trucks.
Honestly I sure wouldn't spend near 100k based on the back seat comfort of my passengers!

RE: Which 303 protect for fifth wheels
Poli glow was made for marine use in the beginning.
chevman PS I scrubbed all screw's square heads to remove the wax on the trim and remove d all of the years of waxing. Not a fun or fast job but I had time.
many other rv folks always told me how amazing it looked .
I was personally allowed to bask in the "GLOW" of the Alpenlight. It was truly a beautiful RV.

RE: I'm curious to know what you would do?
I look at it this way. I have grown to respect your way of buying the next NEW truck hardly after the first oil change is required. Now to think of you possibly buying a USED truck is just shattering my respect for your style!!! :B
Last week we purchased a "used" 2023 Ram 2500 Hemi with ~9k miles so some more shattered respect. We really didn't need it, but the price was good. My wife (she wrote the check) and I picked it up and drove it to the farm. Rides pretty smooth.
What is this RV Community coming to??? Next thing ya know I will be buying Sailun's.
China tires? I'll pass...
Same here! I had to choke a bit buying the Continentals they are made in the Chez Republic. Continentals have a stellar rep with the DRV Community. Unfortunately the GY's did not hold up running at near max capacity.
